Με έναν αρκετά αποκαλυπτικό τρόπο αποφάσισαν μερικές καλλίγραμμες νεαρές κοπέλες από τις ΗΠΑ να ευαισθητοποιήσουν τους συμπατριώτες τους σχετικά με την αναγκαιότητα καθαρισμού των ακτών και των θαλασσών από τα εκατομμύρια σκουπίδια που απειλούν κάθε είδος θαλάσσιας ζωής.

Έτσι, αφού έβαλαν τα μικροσκοπικά τους μαγιό και τα γάντια τους, άρχισαν να οργώνουν κυριολεκτικά δεκάδες παραλίες των ανατολικών ακτών των ΗΠΑ (από τη Φλόριντα μέχρι τη Νέα Υόρκη) μαζεύοντας τόνους σκουπιδιών και πλαστικών.

🚨ATTENTION SPRING BREAKERS🚨 - While enjoying yourselves on our planets beautiful beaches please be mindful of what you’re leaving behind. Regardless of the beaches being turned over in the mornings lots of your trash gets buried under the sand and will eventually break off into little pieces that will end up killing some form of wild life. 💔 Your cigarette butts are not only filled with plastic they are also filled with carcinogens that do not belong on the beach, in the ocean or on the floor. Please drink, smoke and dispose of your trash responsibly. Littering is trashy and it’s cool to care about the environment 🥰🙏🏽 You could bring a reusable “water”bottle, you could bring a bucket for all your beer bottles and cans, you could use a cup for your cigarette butts and of course you could always just pick up after yourselves 💁🏽‍♀️ @TheBikiniBlock along with my best friends @nayitavp @salila_thuy and I will be hosting a @bikinibeachcleanup this Saturday @4:30PM on Fort Lauderdale Beach. 😕 look what @salila_thuy @nayitavp and I found on our @bikinibeachcleanup - Who knows what ghost fishing is? - If you don’t know here’s an article I found online to properly explain... - The NOAA Marine Debris Program, in partnership with the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, published a report that assesses the current state of science on “ghost fishing” and the derelict fishing gear that causes it. Ghost fishing occurs when lost or discarded fishing gear that is no longer under a fisherman’s control continues to trap and kill fish, crustaceans, marine mammals, sea turtles, and seabirds. Derelict fishing nets and traps can continue to ghost fish for years once they are lost under the water’s surface. Ghost fishing can impose a variety of harmful impacts, including: killing target and non-target organisms, including endangered and protected species; causing damage to underwater habitats, such as coral reefs and benthic fauna; economic losses from target species mortalities and replacement costs; and contributing to marine pollution. The report examines existing scientific literature to determine what we know about these impacts, as well as gaps in knowledge and suggestions for prevention and mitigation. For example, some studies estimate that over 90 percent of species caught in derelict fishing gear are of commercial value, which can contribute to a significant loss of revenue for fishermen. It notes that while it’s impossible to know exactly how much derelict fishing gear is in the global ocean, studies say the problem is getting worse due to the increased scale of global fishing operations and the introduction of highly durable fishing gear made of long-lasting synthetic materials. 💔😭 - Fishing line, rope and nets are something I commonly find. Η ομάδα των Instagram Beach Clean Up, που αποτελείται από δεκάδες influencers του δημοφιλούς μέσου κοινωνικής δικτύωσης αποφάσισαν πως έφτασε η ώρα να αναλάβουν δράση για την σωτηρία του πλανήτη, ενώ πιστεύουν πως η εμφάνισή τους θα προσελκύσει το ενδιαφέρον του αντρικού πληθυσμού, ευελπιστώντας με αυτόν τον τρόπο να τους εμφυσήσουν την οικολογική συνείδηση που διέπει και τις ίδιες.

Μάλιστα, μετά την πρώτη τους εμφάνιση σε παραλία του Μαϊάμι, αντίστοιχες πρωτοβουλίες άρχισαν να οργανώνονται και σε διάφορες ακόμα πολιτείες των ΗΠΑ, με τα μέλη της ομάδας να εκφράζουν την αισιοδοξία τους ότι πολλοί ακόμα θα ακολουθήσουν το παράδειγμά τους.

The #BikiniBeachCleanUp was cancelled this morning due to weather conditions and rescheduled to next Saturday 😢🌧 Which means that tomorrow there will prob be lots of trash to pick up! 💁🏽‍♀️ So, here’s a pic of me from my 6th clean up the other gloomy but beautiful morning. I brought two buckets due to the results of the 5th clean up but I only filled up one bucket in an hour. So that was good 😀 but I still found a bucket full of plastic that is harmful to our marine life. With that being said, if you guys ever see this at the beach or in the streets knowing what you know now I really hope you have the decency to pick it up, break it open and throw it out. PLEASE! There are so many out there and even on a less trashed beach I still found 5-10 of these! Thank you, next 🥰

Αξίζει επίσης να σημειωθεί πως η πρωτοβουλία των νεαρών με τα μπικίνι φαίνεται πως έχει πιάσει τόπο για τα καλά, καθώς οι αναρτήσεις του στα social media γίνονται ανάρπαστες, ενώ σε μερικές περιπτώσεις στις παραλίες που σκόπευαν να καθαρίσουν έιχαν συγκεντρωθεί «στρατιές» από άντρες εθελοντές. που δήλωναν έτοιμοι να τις βοηθήσουν να τις καθαρίσουν από τα σκουπίδια και τα πλαστικά.

Βέβαια, αρκετοί ήταν κι όσοι στάθηκαν επικριτικά απέναντι στην πρωτοβουλία των influensers, κατηγορώντας τα μέλη της ομάδας για «κινήσεις εντυπωσιασμού» και για «καλλιέργεια του σεξισμού», όμως η αλήθεια είναι ππως στην κατάσταση που βρίσκεται ο πλανήτης, κάθε βοήθεια είναι ευπρόσδεκτη και απαραίτητη.
